Andrew Jordan drove a tremendous race as he battled for a podium finish at Silverstone in the AVO Ginetta Championship on Sunday (9 October). Although he finally finished fourth, just five-hundredths of a second separated him from third place after a fantastic battle with Richard Austin.Andrew was again racing against far more experienced rivals, but the 16-year old from Sutton Coldfield was one of the stars of the day after his battle with Austin, one of the most experienced competitors in the championship. "He's a very intelligent young racer; he'll go a long way," said Austin after the race.In qualifying on Saturday, Andrew posted fifth fastest time in the 33-car field, but was disappointed to slip down from third place in the final minutes of the qualifying session. "I knew we were fast enough to stay third," he said.Andrew held fifth place on the opening lap, but was soon up to fourth and closing in on Austin. By lap five, he was putting his rival under great pressure and dived ahead under braking for the high speed Copse corner on lap 10. But Austin fought back and they traded the place several more times over the concluding laps. Out of the final corner, Andrew was just ahead, but Austin was closing in and the cars were side by side over the finish line with Austin getting ahead by five-hundredths of a second. It was the dice of the race, and both drivers were thrilled to have been involved in such a fine battle. The grid was reversed for the second race later in the day, so Andrew started almost at the back. However, he immediately passed more than 20 cars to be fourth before the end of the first lap. Unfortunately, as he battled for third he was edged onto the grass and lost a couple of places. Undaunted, he started to fight back, but was soon struggling for grip as a change to the car's suspension set-up ultimately proved to be the wrong choice.Nevertheless, he still finished seventh to complete another great weekend of racing. Andrew now has a break of three weeks before he is back in action for the final Rallycross meeting of the season.
