The Florida Sprint Car Association, East Bay Limited Sprints and the USA Sprints will meet in a 3 way match race called "The Titan of The Dirt" Florida Sprintcars Invtational race at Putnam County Speedway Saturday night October 15th.
Last year's plans were washed out by the nasty string of Hurricanes that cut short the Florida Challenge Series and the whole racing season for that matter. Bruce "The Rocketman" Durden won at Putnam in the first race in July which was co sacntioned by the FSCA and the USA Sprints and was part of the original Florida Challenge Series. Later in October "Mean Gean" Lasker won at Volusia County Speedway but the last race which was to be the "Titan Of The Dirt" was unfortunately postponed due to the inclimate weather from those terrible Hurricanes.
This special invitational race was brought about by PCS Promoter Mike Partin with some help from Otto Scrape and RC Roper the two Series Promoters. This was made possible when Partin extended an invitation to the USA Sprints and the East Bay Limited Sprints class as well as his regular Sprintcar class the FSCA Sprints hosting the event. The USA Sprints drivers will be competing for the overall purse but will maintain thier prospective points for the Drivers Championship. The East Bay cars are not running for points as is the same for the FSCA cars. These races have attracted Statewide and some National attention and will be covered by some of that same media. It is hopeful that Florida's finest will cover this most pretigious event for Florida Dirt Sprintcars.
Both Organizations bring in fine racers who have won hundreds of races and dozens of Championships into this special invitational match race. Expectations are high from Florida Sprint Car fans. Some of the USA Sprints Stars looking for a Win include Greg "The Jet" Leonard # 85 from Wimauma. Leonard who Won last years VCS August dual event will certainly be expected to be one of the top challengers along with RC Roper "The Racin Cowboy" # 92 from Fort Myers. Top Rookie hopefuls are 15 year old Dakota "Young Gun" Stevens # 79 and Michael "Bones" Smith # 9 from Ocala. The 2003 USA Sprints Champion Shane Kriedler # 52 will make his return to the slippery dirt at PCS with great promise. Sean Zippy Namor will also be on hand in the beautiful # 10n Young's Mobil Oil Gambler.
The FSCA Sprints have thier 2005 Champion in Wes Scrape # 66 from Orlando making the trec northward. In addition FSCA Founder and promoter Otto Scrape in the # "wee 3" will not be in racing action due to a severe work related accident which seriously injured his arm.Our prayers are with the entire Scrape family and Otto's speedy recovery. Brett Cole # 65 who is the 2005 Top Rookie for the FSCA and the always tough Mike Love # 7 along with Bruce "The Rocketman" Durden who Won Last years event at Putnam as a USA registered Driver. Alan Kaluzniak # 56 who finished 3rd in the final FSCA Points will make his return. Don't bet against Dennis Misuraca in the 3d "Sanford Missel" who won the most recent pavement event at Ocala Speedway for the USA Sprints 2 weeks ago.
There are several drivers that have run both USA and FSCA sanctioned events this year. The USA Sprints may have a slight disadvantage for lack of track time on the dirt. One of the drivers who has raced with both organizations on both surfaces in 2005 is Mike "10-4" Love # 7 from Ocala and TW Parkinson # 04 from Zepherhills. In addition Tighe Schloss # 8 could be a major player as well. "Tiny Tim" George the USA Sprints points leader will be in hand and most people are not aware that Tim could be the only sprint car racer in the Nation that races every week on both dirt and pavement with the same car. There are some who do this but with different cars. Tim has just one car for himself which now is his daughters older car since his hard flip at East Bay a couple of weeks back.
This is sure to be a awesome weekend for Florida Sprintcar Racing. Last years event was a very competitive race and some onlookers thought it was perhaps the best racing of the year in the State. So please make sure to mark this down on your calenders for this weekend October 15th at Putnam County Speedway @ 6pm.
