Dunlop Race Academy winner, Simon Shaw from Warrington, wowed the crowd during his first official race in the Dunlop Drivers Cup at Silverstone over the weekend.
Competing against 33 other drivers in the final meeting of the season, Simon qualified an astonishing sixth on the grid in the race prepared Ginetta G20. He went on to finish tenth in his debut drive holding off the challenge of many experienced drivers on the track.
The lifestyle of a celebrity racing driver continues for Simon this weekend as he jets out on a club class flight to Monaco for a two-night stay in David Coulthard’s Columbus Hotel, helicopter transfers and many more celebrity trappings.
Simon was chosen as the winner of Dunlop Race Academy 2 from over 8000 entrants. Simon has to undergo a number of driving assessments, media interviews and fitness tests before being crowned the champion.
James Bailey of Dunlop stated: “Simon surpassed our expectations and performed brilliantly on the day. This result is an excellent introduction to motorsport for Simon and who knows what his future might hold! Dunlop have a huge presence in both UK and international motorsport, and Dunlop Race Academy gives us the opportunity to put something back in by taking members of the public and giving them the chance to race on the track.”
