1. Kanaan to reach milestone start: Tony Kanaan will reach a landmark in his IndyCar Series career at the Toyota Indy 400 on Oct. 16.

The 2004 IRL IndyCar® Series champion will start his 50th IndyCar Series event, becoming the fifth driver this season and the 17th driver overall to reach the mark. Helio Castroneves, Tomas Scheckter, Alex Barron and Buddy Rice also reached 50 starts this season. Scheckter capped his 50th start with a victory at Texas Motor Speedway in June, a feat Kanaan hopes to match.

"Team 7-Eleven has been very competitive this season on the superspeedways,” Kanaan said. “Last year, we clinched our IndyCar Series championship at California and while we won't have that opportunity this year, we can still win the race and secure a '1-2' finish for Andretti Green Racing. That would be a great way to wrap up the season."

“I’m really excited to be running at California Speedway again this year,” Abbott said. “I have a home about a mile-and-a-half from the track, and I spend a lot of time out there. I know the track well, so it’ll just be a matter of getting the car dialed in.”

The car will display the American Red Cross emblem on the sidepods in an effort to continue raising funds for hurricane victims.

“I have a lot of friends and a lot of our fellow Americans who still need our assistance,” said Abbott, who has business interests in the gulf coast region. “I’m excited to work with the American Red Cross to help on this effort.”

Representatives of the local Red Cross, as well as hurricane evacuees who made it to California, are expected to attend the race.
