Carrera Cup sold out for 2006

The 2006 Porsche Carrera Cup GB is a sell-out following confirmation that all the available cars for the coming season were sold on the day that orders opened.A batch of 18 examples of the stunning new 997-type 911 GT3 Cup car is being built for Carrera Cup GB in 2006 and all 18 cars were immediately snapped up as teams and drivers rushed to place significant deposits. The unprecedented level of orders for the new car comes as the Carrera Cup heads into a new three-year commitment from Porsche Cars GB. The 997-model car will be used exclusively in the Carrera Cup GB for a minimum of three years."We have been thrilled with the high level of demand for the new car," said championship manager Marion Barnaby. "In fact, we had more orders than cars available and, unfortunately, we have had to disappoint several potential purchasers. But we have started a reserve list, just in case any cars become available. Next year is going to be a fantastic season for the Carrera Cup!"Several teams are also negotiating to purchase 997-model cars from the 2005 Porsche Supercup, which will be eligible for the 2006 Carrera Cup subject to routine re-scrutineering. If these plans reach fruition, the grid is set to grow to more than 20 cars.
