Former National Rally Champion Marcus Dodd aims to put a mixed season of fortune behind him this weekend - by entering the history books. The Poole resident is chasing a record equalling third win on the Bulldog Rally, final round of the MSA Gravel Rally Championship.Driving his Flitewise.com and Petards backed Hyundai Accent World Rally Car, Dodd is aiming to finish the season on a high on the Oswestry based rally. With Hove's Andrew Bargery alongside, the pair will look to put some recent developments on the Pirelli shod HPM Motorsport run Hyundai to good use on the super fast and flowing stages of Mid Wales. Classic roads in Dyfnant, Dyfi and Gartheiniog forests lie in wait for Dodd, who last won the rally in 2001, the most recent of his two victories.Elf Oils supported Dodd will spearhead a three car HPM Motorsport team on the rally. Marcus's father Harry Dodd will be piloting the sister Flitewise.com backed Hyundai, with Scotland's Roy Campbell in the co-drivers seat. HPM will also be running a third Hyundai Accent WRC for Burley's Peter Egerton, with Simon Staddon alongside. For Marcus though, the challenge is to hit the ground running and go for the win on stages he knows and enjoys:'I'm really looking forward to this event' said Marcus. 'We're currently trying a few developments on the Hyundai in readiness for next season, so it would be great to finish this campaign on a high for the whole team. With such a strong entry, its going to be a good battle between the likes of Paul Bird, Barry Johnson and co, but I'm confident that if we have a clean run, we'll be somewhere near the podium by the end of the day. Things haven't really gone our way much this season, although we did have a good run to win the Mutiny Rally earlier in the year. I'm sure that everyone will be pushing hard for some end of season glory, so we're no different on that score!'.Dodd is also pleased to be helping to promote the Petards company, suppliers of the ProVida in-car camera systems, as used by Traffic Police across the UK. Dodd will certainly hope not to put their equipment to the test this weekend, as he looks to keep the speed up on the special stages rather than on the public road!
