Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 leader since the start of the season, Michael Ammermüller (Jenzer Motorsport) goes into the final meeting of the year with a comfortable lead over Kamui Kobayashi (Prema Power Team). But the Japanese driver, who has ran into some excellent end of season form, will be determined to keep up the pressure right to the end!
In the blue corner, Michaël Ammermüller: six pole positions, six wins, four lap records and race leader 41% of the time. In the red corner, Kamui Kobayashi: three pole positions, five wins, four lap records and race leader 37% of the time.
19 points separate them, in favour of the German driver. With a maximum of 34 points available during a week-end, the situation looks pretty good for Ammermüller. He built up his lead at the start of the season, particularly during a run of four consecutive wins. But since Donington, things have not gone so well: Michael has only picked up 22 points in the last four races, against 58 for his rival!
The Jenzer Motorsport driver's lead means he is on control of his own fate. Even if Kamui Kobayashi scores full points at Monza, two fourth place finishes would be enough for Ammermüller to succeed Scott Speed as champion.
Which is why Kamui is under no illusions: as he often says, he is only interested in winning races. But that is the best way to try and win the title! The two rivals have already met at Monza in the Italian Championship in June this year: Kobayashi won two of the three races, whereas Ammermüller didn't win any. The Italian championship will also reach its climax this weekend, with the same two drivers in the running for the title.
Although they are out of the running for the Eurocup title, the SG Formula drivers are determined to muscle their way into the expected duel between the leaders. With two wins behind him, Yann Clairay will want to confirm his third place against the very consistent Carlo Van Dam, who has finished in the points in each of the last eleven races. The French team will be looking to snatch the Team title away from Jenzer Motorsport. One thing is for sure, with five cars in the starting line-up, the team is certain to experience an exciting and dramatic weekend!
A background figure in the last three meetings, Adrian Zaugg (Jenzer) will have to fight hard to stay in fifth place and hold off Filipe Albuquerque (Motopark Oschersleben), who has been steadily improving since Bilbao.
The fight for the final places in the top 10 will be just as interesting, with Junior Strous (Mr Glow powered by AR Motorsport), Bertrand Baguette (Epsilon Euskadi), Alan Hellmeister (JD Motorsport) and French Champion Romain Grosjean (SG Formula), who are all capable of winning!
The starting line-up will be strengthened by the inclusion of several drivers from the Italian Championship. With a total of 44 cars taking part, there should be plenty of action and excitement. Currently lying fourth overall, Jérôme d'Ambrosio will lead the Euronova Racing team. RP Motorsport, Alan Racing and BVM Racing will also be taking part.
Two Spanish drivers are set to make their debut in Eurocup: Jaime Alguersari Jr. (Epsilon Euskadi) and Oliver Campos Hull (Twin Cam Motorsport).
