Jordans day of glory at Croft

Andrew Jordan won both the British Junior Rallycross Championship and the BTRDA Junior Rallycross Championship during an incredible day of racing at Croft (North Yorkshire) on Sunday (30 October). The 16-year old Sutton Coldfield racer was competing in his Mini in a bid to win both championships to add to the Rallycross Super Series title he won recently. Amazingly, he won all eight races on the day to win both championships and, in the process, completed an unrivalled triple championship success."The points weren't really going our way heading to Croft," admitted Andrew. "The pressure we had was huge, but I just got on with the racing. It's fantastic to win all eight races in one day and to win all three junior rallycross championships. I don’t think that's ever been done before!"In the British Junior Championship, Andrew needed the five bonus points for winning the fastest heat if he was to beat his major rival, Kyle Orr. "I knew I had to get those five points, but I was drawn at the back of the grid for my first heat," he explained. Although he battled through to win, the time for the heat was slightly slower than the time recorded by Orr in his first heat. Then, it started to rain before Andrew's second heat, and his chances of beating Orr's time seemed remote. However, Andrew used all his race craft to set the fastest time, even though track conditions were deteriorating. He went on to win the final of both championships, driving superbly in testing conditions to complete a remarkable season. "No one has ever won three junior championship titles in one year," says Andrew. "It feels amazing – I'm so pleased for everyone who has helped me this year."Now, Andrew will turn his attention back to circuit racing as he will spend the next two weekends contesting the Ginetta Winter Series at Brands Hatch and Croft. He will be one of the leading contenders for the four-race series, but knows that adding another championship title to his 2005 tally will be tough to achieve.
