Damax step up to FIA GT3 with Ascari

GT racing team Damax are to step up to the FIA GT3 Championship with works Ascari GT3 cars. The team will contest the new FIA GT3 European Series in 2006 and will be supported by manufacturer Ascari and Gigawave, designers and manufacturers of a wide range of specialised RF equipment for television outside broadcasts, news gathering and security applications.

The team have been racing in the National British GT Championship for the past two seasons and team boss Robin Ward is delighted to be making the step up.  " We have been looking for a way into the FIA GT Championship for some time now and this association with Ascari gives us the perfect opportunity. We are all looking forward to working with Ascari and I am confident we can achieve great results with this car. "

At each event there will be two races per weekend and the races will be held at Silverstone (UK), Oschersleben (Germany), Spa (Belgium), Magny Cours (France) and Imola (Italy). This new Championship, specifically for GT3 cars, will run as a stand alone Championship supporting the FIA GT Championship. It has already attracted the support of Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Dodge Viper, Corvette, Lotus and Maserati who have all expressed an interest in fielding cars in the Championship. All of the manufacturers will be represented by teams rather than being able to run as a full factory team.

Leading the driver line up at Damax will be Nick Adams and Aaron Scott (aaronscott.co.uk).  The team are in talks with a number of drivers interested in completing their driver line up which is due to be confirmed after testing at the beginning of the year.  Their young drivers will also have the opportunity to follow the team into FIA GTs now that they have manufacturer assistance and the backing of Gigawave and Iveco.

The cars are expected to complete their first tests at the end of January before moving onto the official FIA tests where the performance of all of the cars entered in the Championship will be equalised to provide, what is sure to be, some superb racing in 2006.
