More track time for Carrera Cup in 2006
The Porsche Carrera Cup GB will benefit from a significant increase in race distances in 2006, with (time permitting) two half-hour races at each meeting and a special 45-minute enduro at Mondello Park in April. With the prospect of a bumper field for 2006 as the all-new 997-model 911GT3 Cup is introduced to the Carrera Cup GB, the championship has been given a major increase in track time at each of the 10 BTCC race weekends.Subject to finalisation of the timetables, most race distances will be increased from 20 minutes to 30 minutes for 19 of the 20 races on the schedule. The other race will be the special 45-minute race at Mondello Park.In addition, a 20-minute qualifying session will be held and dedicated test sessions will be run ahead of each meeting; typically on the Friday."This represents more than a 50% increase in track time for drivers in the Carrera Cup," says championship manager Marion Barnaby. "Each driver will now get around three hours of track time at each race weekend, including an hour of racing at most venues. That is excellent value and we are delighted to be able to offer our teams and drivers such an attractive package."The 2006 Carrera Cup GB starts at Brands Hatch over the weekend of 8/9 April.
