Winter action at Wimbledon

Spedeworth South warmed up the fans on a cold winter’s night with some very hot racing action from the Stock Cars, Rookie Bangers and Ministox at Wimbledon Stadium on January 15th.

The fender-bending Rookie Bangers were in action on the oval and the figure of 8 track, which needless to say resulted in Plough Lane being turned into a scrap  yard by the time the last MOT failure had ground to a halt. There was a well-deserved win for 825, Wayne Turner in the 8, while the clerk of the course declared the final null and void.

The ever-popular Stock Cars put on a fantastic display of high-powered racing and extensive use of the front bumpers. The racing action was so intense that the final had to be halted for fence repairs after a massive collision. After the restart, Willie Skoyles Jr, 41 went on to win the event.

To complete a night of full-on racing action the Ministox were in action for the first time in 2006 at Plough Lane. Although they are piloted by young (11-16 year old) drivers the cars turned in races that were as action packed as anything put on by the senior drivers. With the little cars tearing around the track three abreast the safety fence was put to the test (along with the skill and courage of the drivers) on more than one occasion.

The opening Ministox round was won in fine style by Jason Cobbold, 371 while Ben Murray, 503 claimed the final.
