Watts bids for Carrera Cup opportunity
Danny Watts is the latest high-profile racer to reveal his intention to contest the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.The former British F3 race winner is currently working to secure backing to make a permanent switch into sportscar racing and has recently been talking to Carrera Cup teams about possible drives."I'm looking at Carrera Cup for 2006," confirms Watts. "I did three races in the Carrera Cup Asia last year. I love the car and I've decided to try and carve out a career in sports cars. The Carrera Cup GB is where I'd like to be in 2006."Having made excellent progress up the single-seater racing ladder to British F3, Watts is now hoping to use the 2006 Carrera Cup as a springboard for a new phase of his career. "My Formula Renault team mate in 2002 was Pat Long, and he's done very well from racing Porsches. I'm really going for this."Watts has been inspired to look at the switch after seeing the all-new 997-model Porsche 911GT3 Cup car, which will be used in the Carrera Cup for the next three seasons. "It is a proper car and it really appeals to me. I'm talking to teams and I really want to focus on this 100%."
