To Complete Unfinished Business
Sebastian Hohenthal (Mora, Sweden) has ended speculation over his future by re-signing for Fortec Motorsport to contest the 2006 Formula Renault UK with Michelin Championship, for what will be his second season in the series.
The Swede was last season’s top rookie driver, finishing fourth in the championship with five podium finishes and one victory, which came in the very last race of the season at Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. The 21-year-old was highly sought after during the close-season and also tested a Formula Three car with Fortec before opting to mount a challenge for the Formula Renault UK crown.
Confirming the deal, Hohenthal said: “Fortec did a great job last year and it’s perfect for me to do another season of Formula Renault and to do it with them. I know how they work and they know how I work so I’m really looking forward to the season. A lot of people talk about winning titles but I prefer to keep the talk to myself, drive the best I can and see what happens.
“I learned a lot in my first year in Formula Renault. There were some races where I did well but others where I drove badly so I feel I need more time to become more consistent. I feel I have unfinished business in Formula Renault.”
Team Principal Richard Dutton is delighted Fortec was able to fight off stiff competition to retain its leading driver, saying: “The team made a big play for Sebastian and we’re thrilled he has decided to stay with us. We think he is a really exciting driver, easy to work with and I’m sure he will be a front-runner this season.
“He was the best rookie in the championship last season and is perhaps one of a few drivers who can win the title this year. We’re putting together a strong team and hopefully they will all push each other along.”
Hohenthal joins James Sutton (New Barnet, Herts) and Fabio Onidi (Milan, Italy) in Fortec’s line-up for 2006 and the team now has just one seat left to fill.
