Ingram connects with "The Dean"

Jon Ingram emerged victorious on the opening round of the British Trials & Rally Drivers Association (BTRDA) Championship, the Get Connected! Wyedean Forest Rally. To think just two years ago an unknown Ingram making a return to the sport after a fifteen year lay off, struggled to get an entry on the event. The Ford Focus World Rally Car driver turned up for the Chepstow based event having not used the car since the Grizedale Stages back in December and had no chance to test the car in the week leading up to the event.Ingram and co-driver Ian Allsop started the day with second fastest time over the opening test at Chepstow Racecourse and confident the pre-event plan would come into effect as the pair headed into the Forest of Dean and the second test, the longest stage of the rally."We had planned to have a full attack over the stage and with the overnight frost thought others may exercise a little caution through there." said Ingram after the stage.Taking fastest time meant Ingram and Allsop had also inherited the lead in the rally and held a thirteen second advantage over their nearest rivals. Two more clean runs though the remaining stages before the only service of the day and the rally duo had extended their lead to eighteen seconds and another fastest stage time. After a routine service, Stage five in Chepstow Park gave the pair yet another fastest time with just three stages remaining. Ingram and Allsop completed two of the three without problem, maintaining a ten second advantage and headed back to the final stage, a re-run of the opening stage at Chepstow Racecourse. Ingram lost some time on the start line with a launch control fault on the Focus causing the car to cut out. However, Ingram managed to completed the stage and claim his first victory on the event."It's been a fantastic day, to have three fastest and four second fastest times has shown some consistency in our times. I am disappointed to have had the problem on the final stage and give away seven seconds, but a win is a win and I have thoroughly enjoyed it."Ingram will now turn his attention to tarmac, as he prepares to contest the Quality Hotels West Cork Rally on March 18th & 19th. Ingram is looking forward to returning to asphalt and the compact route of 160 stage miles that lie ahead."I have not competed on tarmac for a long time apart from the eight miles we did on the Jim Clark before retiring. So to go to Ireland and do it will be a great challenge for us. I don't expect to be on the pace but I'm sure we will enjoy the experience."
