Successful Road Atlanta test for Binnie

Binnie Motorsports completed a successful three day test from Tuesday February 13th thru Thursday 16th February at the Road Atlanta circuit in Georgia. The team's Lola 05/40 is now fitted with the 3.4 V8 Zytek engine.   The agenda for the test included a tire test between Michelin and a number of other tire manufacturers as well as reliability tests for the new power plant.

A number of Zytek personnel were present at the 3 day test session including Trevor Foster, general manager of Zytek and a number of senior engineers from Zytek.

Reliability: The principal focus of the test was to prove the reliably of the new engine and drive train in advance of the upcoming Sebring 12 Hour Race in mid-March.  The engine and racecar proved extremely reliable and the test was considered highly successful. The team completed 468 laps and a total of 1,909 kilometers in spite of record cold temperatures in the morning which delayed the start of testing by a few hours in two of the three test days.

Tire Testing and Comments:

In part as a result of the testing at the Atlanta test sessions the team has selected Michelin tires for the 2006 season.

Team owner Bill Binnie driving the car for the first time since the new engine installation was impressed with the power and drivability of the Zytek power plant. "We are hopeful that this race car will deliver on race day and we look forward to Sebring. The new Zytek engine seems great and the Michelins are going to help us remain competitive in the face of the new competition in our class. It has been a busy winter for our team.  We have re-engined our Lola and completed our new 20,000 square foot state-of -the-art race shop and we moved our program forward a lot and we are ready for the new season."

The team is now back at its New Hampshire base preparing the car for the 12 Hours of Sebring
