A potentially disappointing situation where spectators may not have been allowed to attend the Castle Combe Circuit‘s first meeting of the year has been averted thanks to the sport’s governing body, the Motor Sports Association (MSA).
Following the setting up of the Castle Combe Racing Club Ltd, which has taken over the running of race meetings at the circuit, the club looked as though it might fall foul of an old rule preventing new clubs from holding a public meeting as its first event.
The rule was designed and intended to stop those without experience holding motor sport events and putting the public potentially at risk.
However, in the case of the Castle Combe Racing Club Ltd, all its officials and marshals have simply swopped allegiance from the former operating club, the BRSCC. The circuit felt therefore that the rule should not be applied in this case.
Circuit Chairman Howard Strawford explained, “ After some discussion with the MSA, they agreed we should not be subject to the same rule. The people behind the new club have tremendous experience, at least as good, if not better, than any of the traditional motor clubs. Therefore we are very pleased the MSA have given us the go-ahead to run our first meeting of the year on 25 March as normal, with the public enjoying the racing and seeing first hand the new enthusiasm and spirit behind the club.”
A full programme of races will be run on 25 March with qualifying from 8:30am and racing from 1:30pm.go to www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk built by Racecar
