Ninety historics for BHRC opener
Competitor response to the 2006 Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship is running at very high levels and a fabulous 90-car entry has been received for the opening round of the season. When entries closed today for the Robin Hood Forest Stages on 4/5 March, 90 historic entries were logged for the first of nine events in the 2006 schedule. In 2005, 83 cars started the Robin Hood across the three historic categories.Of particular note is the continued strong growth in the classic category (1975-1981), where crews are contesting the HRCR Classic Stage Rally Challenge. A record 23 category 3 cars are entered for the opening round, and more cars are expected to join the series as the season develops. The oldest group of cars compete in the historic category (pre-1968), which continues to be well supported, with 21 category 1 cars due to start the Robin Hood. As ever, the post-historic (1968-1974) is the most popular division, with 46 category 2 cars due for the Nottinghamshire event.Maintaining the level of variety for which the BHRC is famed, no less than 11 different manufacturers are represented in the entry, with 18 different models. As ever, Ford Escorts are the most popular choice, but cars from Porsche, Saab, Austin, Sunbeam, Datsun, MG, Skoda, Toyota, Volvo and Triumph are all set to thrill the fans.
