The affordable Arrive & Drive racing series
Silverstone Motorsport Academy has been running successful and respected Arrive & Drive racing programmes for several years. In 2005 the Academy saw its Silverstone based race series run under the banner of ‘Star of Silverstone’ for the first time and, due to its popularity, the initiative will be run again throughout 2006.
A large part of the programme’s success can be assigned to two factors; the first is the hassle free Arrive & Drive convenience. No need to worry about owning & storing a car, transporting & preparing it before the race, or getting your hands dirty with frantic last minute changes to set-up. Participants can simply pull up at Silverstone and jump behind the wheel of a race prepared Formula Ford. The second is that, without doubt, this is the most affordable Arrive & Drive racing available in the UK, with a day’s racing available from as little as £850 + VAT!
The Arrive & Drive ‘Star of Silverstone’ series has regularly hosted grids of 18 cars or more, which have produced some of the best racing ever seen at the Academy. Great battles of skill and determination are often witnessed to decide the victors of each race. As with the nature of Silverstone’s Arrive & Drive racing, the results are dictated by the budding star behind the wheel, rather than any trick set-up or engine.
‘Star of Silverstone’ races appeal to two types of driver. The first is the career driver, who is looking to reach the highest accolades of the sport. The recommended approach for this type of driver would be to win at this entry level of ‘school’ racing. If drivers are not winning at this level, should they really be considering a move into highly competitive and expensive National Championships? The second, which accounts for the vast majority of racers, is the serious enthusiast looking to enjoy ‘hassle free’ racing, in a friendly environment, with like-minded competitors.
Due to the high costs associated with motor racing, for many it’s just a dream, but at Silverstone, Home of the British Grand Prix, dreams can become reality.
