Phil McVay on the right track

Midlands rally driver Phil McVay continued his busy start to the 2006 rally season with a top 10 finish on last weekend's Robin Hood Rally.

The forestry event saw Phil and Welsh co-driver Nick Cadwallader set a string of top three times in their Subaru Impreza as they contested 10 high speed tests in the Worksop-based rally.

With plans for a full assault on the British Rally Championship currently being finalised Phil said that without spins on the day's early stages they could have finished higher up the running order.

"We were seventh overall but I was annoyed with myself for a few spins in the icy conditions of the early morning which cost us time and we spent the rest of the day catching up on the leaders,'' he said.

"Once conditions warmed a little the forests were in perfect condition and to set some top three times was great,'' said Phil. "The competition was tough and events like this are ideal training for the British Rally Championship.''

Phil and Nick have BRC Live at Mallory Park on March 19 as the next date in their calendar and are looking forward to the chance of promoting their campaign to potential sponsors.

"Competing at the highest level in the British Rally Championship is our plan for the year and we are hopeful that our performances so far this year will help secure enough backing or the full season,'' said Phil.

"We have started the year in style and can't wait to wow the crowds at Mallory Park next weekend.''

Tickets for BRC Live are available in advance for only £8 per adult.  A portion of each ticket is entered into a prize draw and 25 lucky winners will get a once in a lifetime ride in one of the rally cars. Children under 16 attend for free when accompanied by an adult.  On the door adult price is £10. Mallory Park is just eight miles from Leicester and is signposted from Junc 21 of the M1.
