The old up and down under

If you like your motorsport loud and fast, with plenty of horsepower, lots of action and stacks of character, then you won’t go far wrong with the Australian V8 Supercar series. The 2006 series kicks off in style, on the Adelaide street circuit, voted Promoter of the Year every year since its inception. Marcos Ambrose won the last two events at the circuit in the Ford but reigning champion Russell Ingall is ready to hit the track and start defending his title. Motors TV will be showing both races, round one and two, delayed as live over the weekend.

Southern hospitality

The sixth round of the NASCAR Busch Series hits the incredible Bristol Motor speedway this weekend, with the forty-plus car field charging round this ½ mile concrete oval. Bristol is famous for completely enclosing the racetrack in spectator grandstand seating and the short track, with banking more than 30˚, always ensure spectacular race action. The southern NASCAR fans are fanatical and with a capacity of more than 160,000, the atmosphere is always electric. Motors TV will be showing the complete race live throughout the afternoon.

New name, familiar thrills

Super GT is the new name for the Japanese GT Championship but despite the new name, the action and excitement are bound to be just as good as in previous years. This season sees Maserati hit the Japanese championship for the first time, while regular local drivers will be battling it out alongside Brits Ralph Firman and Peter Dumbreck and Le Mans veteran, Erik Comas. The first round comes from the fabled Suzuka circuit, as Japanese domestic brands battle with supercar marques from Europe and the rest of the world.

 The Leaping Cat

The second edition of GT Spirit looks at the wonderful Jaguar XK models. The story begins with the stunningly beautiful XK120 (for 120 miles per hour), one of the first production cars to feature double camshafts and designed by William Lyons. The car went down a storm when it was launched at the London Motor Show and went on to spawn models such as the XK140 and 150. The iconic designation was revived in the ‘90s for the most prestigious and performance-orientated of the leaping cats and continues to this day, on the XKR models.
