Bratt shows potential at Brands

Day two of the official Formula Renault UK pre-season test at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit continued to prove Will Bratt’s potential as a realistic front-runner, just three weeks away from the championship’s first two races of the year at the Kent venue. With yesterday’s dry sessions at the 1.2-mile circuit a distant memory, the Scorpio Motorsport ace was characteristically unfazed by the return of wet weather and during a damp and cold opening three and a half hours of action, 17-year-old Will ended up with the sixth fastest time – only seven 100ths of a second adrift of third place. The Adderbury teenager was in thoroughly impressive form once again, a lap of 47.806 seconds (92.33mph) his best of the morning, and with the track then beginning to dry during the afternoon session Will underlined his undoubted skill by securing, and firmly holding on to, a position in the top three with a lap of 45.420 seconds (97.18mph).Unfortunately, a decision to change Will’s car to a full dry set-up didn’t quite work out as the rain began to fall literally as soon as he exited the pitlane. A number of his rivals had been able to take advantage of the drier conditions while the Scorpio ace was stationary in his garage but both Will and the team know they have the speed to run at the front.“We were on the pace all day”, explained Will at the conclusion of the test. “This morning we were strongly running in the top four and five places throughout the session and then in the afternoon, as the track dried out, we were third fastest so that was good.“Having changed to slick tyres things were going well and so we took the decision to change the car to a completely dry-weather set-up. The gamble didn’t pay off for us as by the time we left the pits a lot of other drivers had managed to go quicker and then it started to rain again. It was worth trying though as we know we’re going well.“I’m pretty happy we have good pace now and I think we’ve shown throughout the last two days we have very good potential for this season. The car was particularly good through Paddock Hill Bend and Druids Hairpin so I’m looking forward to the return to Brands Hatch for the first two rounds of the season.”Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire will host the final official pre-season test next week, 22nd/23rd March, prior to the opening two rounds of the 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit on 8th/9th April.
