Roll on Rnd 1 says Metcalfe after Brands
Formula Renault UK race winner Jeremy Metcalfe says he can’t wait for the first round of the 2006 season to begin after another impressive day of testing at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent, the venue for the opening two races of the championship. With wet weather dominating the majority of today’s sessions, Jeremy did take full advantage of a small period of dry running during the afternoon to post a lap of 44.655 seconds (98.85mph).The 17-year-old, from Fleet in Hampshire, ended the day just a 10th of a second adrift of the top of the times and, significantly, the quickest of all three Team Lemac AKA drivers.Speaking on his encouraging test, Jeremy said: “In the morning we were down a little bit on the other front-runners but that was due to the fact we spent time working on the car without pushing for a quick lap. When we did try for some faster times in the last half hour we were competitive relative to the others so I’m happy.“The afternoon session only really had about 30 minutes of dry running so it was good to end up third. Plus, I managed to find the time I knew I was losing yesterday in a couple of places so I think that proves how useful these dual test days are.”The final official test of the pre-season will take place next week, 22nd/23rd March, at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire. Jeremy’s last outing at Croft, of course, came in the winter series where the Hampshire sensation took his maiden Formula Renault UK race victory, so hopes are high in the Team Lemac AKA camp for a very encouraging outing. Jeremy added: “I’m sure we’ll carry on our good pre-season at Croft next week, we should be fast. It’s all building up slowly to hopefully being a very good first round of the season – I really can’t wait for the racing to begin.” Rounds one and two of the 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship will take place at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in just three weeks time, 8th/9th April.
