Piers Masarati will contest the opening round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB alongside David Ashburn in the two-car Trackspeed team.While Ashburn is set to contest most of the 2006 Carrera Cup schedule, Masarati will combine his role as team manager at Trackspeed with racing at Brands Hatch on 8/9 April. Initially, Masarati is only confirmed for the opening two races, as he is keen to put a leading racer into the car for the balance of the season."The second car is available for the rest of the year," says Masarati. "I'll do the first two races and we'll see what happens after that. I just want to show that we can do a good job. We set competitive times at the media day at Silverstone without running new tyres and proved that the car is on the pace."Masarati, who has not raced at Brands for four years, reckons it will be a very competitive season in Carrera Cup. "There are nine or 10 guys who could be in it and it's got to be the most competitive field the Carrera Cup has ever had. Brands is one of my favourite circuits!"
