Porsche Cup Prize Drives in 2006

Both PCGB Race Series Offer Porsche Cup Prize Drives in 2006

Porsche Open series now to offer high-profile race opportunity

For the first time 2006 sees both of the Porsche Club Great Britain's two leading race series offering entrants the possibility of a one-off drive in the prestigious Porsche Carrera Cup GB - courtesy of Porsche Cars Great Britain. In recent seasons the overall winner of the Porsche Club Championship has had an outing in the Carrera Cup VIP car the following season, but now a second drive is available to the leading and most consistent Open runner in a 911 GT3 Cup car running in Class Two.

This means for the first time points will be scored by Porsche Open runners, which runs as a series of races rather than a championship, but the points won by eligible Class Two drivers will solely be for the purpose of scoring towards claiming the prize drive at the end of the season. The onus in the points system will be on racers who have supported the series for the full season, a driver's final points haul being multiplied by the number of meetings (not the number of races) that they have contested.

"We're really pleased that Porsche have confirmed this additional prize," said Open and Club Championship coordinator Steve Kevlin, "it shows their continued commitment to supporting Porsche Club motorsport."

The prize has already seen increased interest in Class Two of the Open for 2006, with drivers, including series returnees Pete Morris and Peter Chambers, targeting the prospect of racing in the Carrera Cup at a TOCA-package meeting next season.

This season 2005 Porsche Club champion Tom Segrue has the opportunity to race in the Carrera Cup at a selected meeting.
