One of the UK's most promising young drivers, Joey Foster, concluded a successful first test for the new Lola B06/30 F3 car at Silverstone last Friday.
The Cornish racer, tipped by many as a future International single seater star, impressed the HS Technik F3 team as they prepared for the 2006 Recaro German F3 Series. Despite freezing temperatures and a strong wind, Foster pleased HS Technik and Lola engineers with his feedback on the heavily revised chassis. He completed 36 trouble free laps in the Opel-Spiess engined car.
Foster, who is looking to race for the German team this season was happy to be back in a Formula Three car and remarked: "It was a great opportunity to drive the HS Technik Lola and I must thank (team owner) Mr Hascic for the chance to work with him and his very professional team. It would be absolutely fantastic to do the Recaro German F3 series this season but at the moment I am still short of funds to do so."
"I got a really nice feel for how the team works and although it was difficult to generate the necessary heat in to the tyres because of the weather, the Lola felt very stable and grippy from the start of the test," said the 2003 Formula Ford Festival winner. "I think that it is certainly a winning chassis this season and I would love to be a part of HS Techniks plans. Some engineering members of the team worked with Nico Rosberg in 2003 and 2004, nurturing him in to what he is today. So it is great to know there is an opportunity for me to show what I can do on the International stage."
The McLaren/Autosport Young Driver finalist has previously enjoyed backing from the BRDC Young Drivers scheme and he is hoping that he can complete a deal to race with the HS Technik team and be on the grid for the first round of the series on 23rd April at Oscersleben.
HS Technik's owner Michael Hascic immediately invited Foster to again test for the team at Hockenheim this Thursday where the team will also run its second Lola B06/30-Opel Spiess with the already confirmed Martin Hippe driving.
" Joey did a very professional job at Silverstone," said Hascic. "He would be very good this year but first he needs the backing to clinch the deal. We very much hope that he can join us this season but for the moment he will get some more running at Hockenheim this week."
