Record grid for Carrera Cup opener
A record grid of 21 cars will contest the opening round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch on 8/9 April. The biggest field in the history of the Carrera Cup GB will make a fantastic spectacle on the Indy circuit and the entry will grow to as many as 23 cars at later races in the season."We're thrilled with the response to the Carrera Cup for 2006," says championship manager Marion Barnaby. "It's going to be a fabulous season of racing!"With a field crammed with top quality teams and drivers, the stage is set for a fine season of racing for the identical 997-model 911GT3 Cup cars. The opening race at Brands Hatch will be the debut British race for the latest model Porsche.Driving the Vertu-backed Porsche Cars GB VIP entry at Brands will be renowned motoring journalist Mark Hales. Having raced virtually every type of car imaginable in a long and distinguished racing career, Hales will now sample the 400bhp racer for the first time.Taking the entry up to 23 cars is the Tech 9 Motorsport team headed by Phil Hindley. Although the team will miss the opening two weekends of the season, it will contest around half the races this season with a two-car team.
