Front Runners Confirm for 2006 - Growing grid promises exciting racing
The Porsche Club Championship is on course for another season of quality racing, with a burgeoning entry that sees many of the top runners from recent seasons once more on the grid. Tom Segrue, 2005 overall champion, is again running his 944 S2, while class winners Ian White and Ben Demetriou have signed up for 2006 - the latter moving up to challenge Segrue in Class Two with a 911 SC.
In Class One White only lost out to Segrue for the overall title by five points last season, and will be keen to clinch the Porsche Carrera Cup prize drive on offer to the champion this season. Class One runner-up Andy Purdie has moved on to race in the Carrera Cup, while third-placed Richard Harrison looks a likely challenger for White's 3.2 litre Carrera. With entries approaching double figures, the strength in Class One means the battles at the front of the field will be as exciting as ever.
The top five in Class Two last season have all currently registered for this year's campaign, Marcus Carniel, Fraser Robertson, former champion Richard Lambert and Colin Ingram all capable of providing a stiff challenge to Segrue and running in the lead battles at some circuits. Again, entries are currently poised to break into double figures.
With Demetriou moving to Class Two, Chris Stewart's 911 E looks the car to beat in Class Three, aiming to go one better than the runner-up slot he has held for the previous two seasons.
Within the three classes the minimum weights of the individual Porsche models are adjusted to standardise the power to weight ratio and provide close exciting racing. Opening meeting of the 2006 Porsche Club Championship is at Snetterton on April 16th and 17th
