90th Indianapolis 500 Entries

FOYT ENTERPRISES, PDM RACING FILE ENTRIES FOR 90th INDIANAPOLIS 500

A.J. Foyt Enterprises, owned by four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt, filed three entries April 3 for the 90th Indianapolis 500.

Longtime Indianapolis 500 team PDM Racing also filed an entry for the race.

The 90th Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 28 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Entries must be postmarked by midnight Wednesday, April 5.

Foyt Racing named veterans Felipe Giaffone and Larry Foyt as drivers of two of its three entries.

2001 IndyCar® Series Rookie of the Year Giaffone, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, will drive the No. 14 ABC Supply Co./A.J. Foyt Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone, with an identical backup entered. Craig Baranouski, who serves as the general manager for all three Foyt entries, is the chief mechanic.

Giaffone will attempt to make his sixth Indianapolis 500 start and his second in a row for Foyt. Last year, Giaffone provided the story of Bump Day when the legendary Foyt called Giaffone while he was shopping with his wife in an Indianapolis store, asking Giaffone to come to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that afternoon to qualify his car. Giaffone qualified 33rd with just 24 minutes remaining in Bump Day qualifying, finishing 15th on Race Day.

Giaffone’s best year at Indianapolis came in 2002, when he qualified fourth and finished third.

Larry Foyt, a native of Houston, will drive the No. 41 A.J. Foyt Racing Panoz/Honda/Firestone. The backup car is a Dallara chassis. John Schaer is the chief mechanic.

Foyt has made his two prior Indy 500 starts in cars owned by his father, A.J. Foyt. His best start and finish were 22nd and 32nd, respectively, as a rookie in 2004.

No driver was named for the third Foyt entry, the No. 48 A.J. Foyt Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone. Baranouski is the chief mechanic for the entry, which does not have a backup.

PDM Racing entered the No. 18 Honda/Firestone car, with no backup entered. The chassis will be determined. Brad Brewer is the chief mechanic, with team owner Paul Diatlovich also serving as general manager.
