Red Bull Brumos Porsche Squad Heads West With Law and Donohue for Long Beach Inaugural Event
Darren Law of Phoenix, Arizona will again join teammate David Donohue and the entire #58 Brumos Porsche squad as they head out to the streets of Long Beach, California for the Rolex Grand American Sports Car Series Presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach event to be held Saturday, April 8th. The Rolex Series event marks the inaugural race for the Daytona Prototypes and GT cars on the tight and twisty 1.968 Long Beach street circuit.The Rolex sports cars will be taking to the technical and wall-bordered circuit for first practice the morning of Friday, April 7th, and the green flag for the 90 minute timed race is set to wave at 4:00 pm the following day. Productive practice sessions will be at a premium for all the teams as practice time will be limited, and the concrete barriers that line the famous circuit will be unforgiving. Drivers will have a chance to walk the circuit the morning of April 6th.Experience CountsLaw, who grew up in the Southern California area and started his racing career in karts at many of the tracks found around Los Angeles considers this race a bit of a homecoming. Darren also has time on the Long Beach circuit as both he and Brumos teammate Donohue competed in the North American Super Touring Car Championship.Fast Again2006 has shown a resurgence in the competitiveness of the Brumos Porsche Fabcar combination, and both Law and Donohue will be looking to capitalize on the positive momentum the team has felt at the start of this season. Despite a spin by a lapped car that blocked the track and dropped the #58 Red Bull entry to a tenth place finish at the Homestead race two weeks ago, the Brumos squad still find themselves in fourth place in the championship standings.Darren Law QuoteWe had a really good car at Homestead and probably could have finished a bit further up the ladder, but traffic plays a big role on some of these tighter circuits. Long Beach could definitely be a good track for us, but it will be interesting to see how the weight penalty and rev restrictions (Grand American officials have added 75 lbs to each Porsche Daytona Prototype team and reduced their rev limit to 9000 rpm) hurt us after Homestead. I am not happy about it, but this is what the series is doing to try to keep an even playing field so we have to deal with it. I am looking forward to coming to Long Beach for several reasons, one is that I grew up not too far from here, and I am looking forward to coming back and seeing some of my old friends.
