Jordan set for BTCC opener
Mike Jordan will take on some of the top touring car racers in the world during the opening rounds of the 2006 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday (9 April).Jordan's John Guest-supported Honda Integra will line up for the opening three races of the year in the most prestigious race championship in Britain, ranged against works teams from Vauxhall and SEAT as well as reigning champion Matt Neal and a host of other quick racers. However, Jordan is confident of giving a good showing after a promising pre-season testing programme in the Team Eurotech car. "I feel very much on top of the car now. In fact, I feel more at one with the Honda than I have with my GT cars of recent seasons."One of the big differences is moving from high-powered rear-wheel drive GT cars to the front-wheel drive touring car, but Jordan has made the adjustment well. "My only real previous experience in a front-wheel drive car was doing a rallycross meeting in a Peugeot 205, and that was a real strong lesson!"Now, the prospect of racing in the all-action BTCC has fired his enthusiasm for the new season. "It's only lately that I've realised how revved up I am for the start of the season; more than for a long time," he says. "I haven't got too much in the way of pre-season expectations at this stage, but I'd like to think we can win a race or two this year. I want to put on a good show and have some good races! We'll have a lot of people from our sponsors coming to watch at Brands, so I hope they enjoy their day."The opening day of BTCC action will have extensive TV coverage. On ITV1, a 90-minute programme on Sunday afternoon will carry the third race of the day live along with highlights from the opening two races. Meanwhile, the Motors TV programme will carry live coverage from Brands Hatch throughout Sunday.
