Jordan Rallycross Supercar debut

Andrew Jordan will make history on Easter Monday (17 April) by becoming the youngest driver ever to compete in a Supercar in the British Rallycross Championship.16 year-old Jordan (Sutton Coldfield) will be racing at the Lydden circuit near Dover in Kent in the opening major event of the British Rallycross season. He will be racing a 550bhp four-wheel drive Ford Focus built and run by the Whitstable-based G-Tech team of former rallycross champion Will Gollop."I'm just going to enjoy driving it and make the most of the chance to drive a supercar," says Andrew, who will not reach his 17th birthday until late May. So, although he is not old enough to drive on the road yet, he will take to the track in a car with five times the power of a normal Ford Focus; the car's acceleration off the line can outstrip a Formula 1 car!Andrew is the first driver from the Junior category to graduate to top of the sport. In 2005, he won all three Junior championship titles in his Mini, but the Focus is nearly 10 times more powerful than the Mini, so he knows he has a big learning programme ahead of him.Andrew has now completed a pre-season testing programme with the Focus and has impressed onlookers with the way he has adapted to the new challenge. "I've got on better with the car than I thought I was going to and I gelled with it as soon as I got in," reported Andrew. He has also taken part in a pre-season tuition programme with the Bill Gwynne Rally School in order to acclimatise to the weight and handling characteristics of a modern four-wheel drive car. Andrew Jordan is supported by Shell, John Guest, Pirtek, Quaife Engineering and Bill Gwynne Rally School.
