Sir Stirling Moss to Present Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy
The UK round of the FIA GT Championship / 6-7th May 2006
With just four weeks until the 2006 Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy, excitement is building for this clash of the motoring titans on 6th and 7th May at Silverstone. The competition will feature the world’s motoring elite, including Aston Martin, Ferrari and Maserati, pitting the top drivers against each other.
Sir Stirling Moss will arrive at Silverstone in a new Rolls-Royce Phantom, to present the legendary Tourist Trophy to the winner on behalf of the Club. In fact, it is one hundred years since Rolls-Royce won the Tourist Trophy in 1906. Sir Stirling Moss continues to hold the impressive record of seven TT wins, making him an inspirational hero for up and coming motor racing drivers participating in this year’s event.

This year’s Championship brings some of the most powerful road-based cars in the world in a head to head battle as the crowds hold their breath to see which will ultimately be victorious and claim the Trophy. Manufacturers competing in include Maserati, Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Corvette and Saleen.

The Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy was first contested on September 14th 1905 and was revived for its centenary at the 2005 FIA GT Championship. In 1905, it took place over six hours at the hilly and picturesque, 52 mile, Isle of Man circuit with John Napier, winning in an Arrol-Johnston. In its current format the Tourist Trophy takes place over three hours and is regarded as a real test of driving skills and endurance, with rapid driver changes and pit stops par for the course.
