The 2006 Porsche Speed Championship roars into action this Bank Holiday weekend with the opening round at the Croft race circuit in North Yorkshire on Easter Monday. The popular sprint series will see drivers in a wide variety of Porsches aiming to set the quickest time with three runs round the challenging circuit.
With a total of 44 registered competitors heading into the first meeting, the Porsche Speed Championship is set for another strong year. The three leading points scorers from 2005 are all once again entered, making Colin Belton (993 RSR), Derek Tomas (Carrera SS 3.2) and Graham Rose (924S) the drivers to beat in their respective classes.
The series features a mix of events at circuits and leading sprint and hill-climb venues, and from Croft moves to the famous Shelsley Walsh hill-climb in May. The busy 13-event season sees entrants facing challenges as diverse as Goodwood, Castle Combe and Cadwell Park race circuits and Gurston Down and Harewood hills.
The Croft meeting is organised by the Darlington and District Motor Club and features a host of other entrants outside the Porsche series - ranging from road going cars and high-powered single-seaters to rapid motorcycles. Practice starts at 9.30am with the first runs around 11am.
