Current Irish A1 GP star Michael Devaney will be the VIP driver for the Mondello Park rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB on 22/23 April. The Dubliner will be taking part in his first ever sportscar races.Devaney has been invited to race the new Vertu-backed 997-model Porsche 911GT3 Cup car following his impressive performances at the wheel of the Irish A1 GP car over the winter months and will compete against fellow Irishman and reigning Carrera Cup champion Damien Faulkner. The former German F3 racer will have to re-learn the Mondello circuit as he has not raced there for four years. Devaney's previous experience at the Kildare track was all in Formula Ford single-seaters."I'm really excited and honoured to be asked by Porsche Cars GB to drive the guest car," says Devaney. "I've always wanted to try a GT car and it is something I have never had the opportunity to do before. It will be fantastic to be back at my home track again after four years and I'm really looking forward to it. "The car will be very different to anything I've driven before and it will be very strange to have a roof over my head but I'm sure I will be able to rise to what will be a very tough challenge. I would like to thank Porsche Cars GB for this fantastic opportunity."Devaney will drive the 400bhp Porsche for the first time during the official Carrera Cup test sessions on Friday (21 April).
