SLC R1 Official presentation

At the international Airport of Pescara

The Abruzzo International Airport in Pescara was the scene for the presentation of the SLC - Racing One, the Formula 3 single-seater from the Super Light Cars company for the 2006 sporting season.

Produced by the Italian firm SLC that belongs to the ATR Group, the Racing One made a promising debut in the F3 Euroseries championship in 2005.  It now faces a  new challenge: the “Recaro Cup”, the German Formula 3 that represents, in terms of  prestige and competitiveness, the most prestigious European stage of the minor series.  In fact,  according to the experts in the sector it is the level immediately below that of Formula 1.

The single-seater’s excellent specifications are the fruit of SLC Italian engineering, headed on this occasion by the Chief Engineer Stefano Marani, whilst the ATR Group, European leader in the sector of advanced composite materials in carbon fiber was represented by its Sole Director, Engineer Umberto Pierantozzi.

Guest of honour at the event was Mr. John Morrogh owner of the racing school of the same name.

The national technological realisation used for this project, the collaboration with the Italian Target Racing Team (represented by the Chief Engineer Andrea Quintarelli) and  the choice of two young Italian pilots, Salvatore Gatto and Riccardo Azzoli outline an all Italian challenge in one of the most competitive international Racing areas.

Fitted with a monocoque frame in carbon fiber, the single-seater is characterised by  technical solutions that are highly original for F3, having been derived from F1.  The use of advanced composite materials in carbon fiber confers a lightness and sturdiness unrivalled by its competitors; the rear axle is extremely tapered thanks to the special way in which the optimised Opel engine is installed in the space available and the use of an innovative gearbox.

In addition to the press conference to present the design and the 2006 sporting programme, the event was set off by an acceleration test by the SLC - R1 in front of the  public and TV cameras on one of the airport landing runways, the airspace having been closed to traffic for the occasion.

In the display area dedicated to SLC inside the hall of the  Abruzzo International Airport the k200 and k250 (the boat version) were also on show, two winning examples of SLC’s road production reserved for what is essentially a niche market.

The Abruzzo Region, a proud supporter of the project was also present in the form of the President of the IV Commission, Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Regional Council, Augusto Di Stanislao and the Vice President of the Regional Council Enrico Paolini.  “The Region backs research, high-technology, innovation and the production of excellence to encourage the regional entrepreneurial system and the Abruzzo brand in Europe and the world”- these were the words of Paolini in support and appreciation of the ATR Group and SLC’s initiative - “ It is to points of excellence like this, that represent real methods of alternative communication, that we entrust the task of making the Abruzzo brand known throughout Europe and the world”.

SLC racing One will make its debut on the German racing circuit at Oschersleben on the 22nd April
