Senna & Mercedes first British F3 win

Bruno Senna and Mercedes won their first ever race in British F3 in the season opener at Oulton Park.  In a race interupted by three safety car periods, the Brazilian held his nerve at every restart to dominant in a lights-to-flag victory.  His Double R Racing teammate Stephen Jelley took the second spot on the podium, with Carlin Motorsport's Oliver Jarvis taking 3rd.  The National Class was won by Rodolfo Gonzalez.

At the start Senna got the best start with Jelley immediately coming under pressure from Oliver Jarvis.  Jarvis took the place at Old Hall but ran wide on the exit allowing Jelley to regain the place but this squabbling allowed Senna to move ahead and by the time the cars came round to Clay Hill the Brazilian was 4 lengths ahead of his teammate. Maro Engel made a flying start with the German making up 4 places to end the 1st lap in 4th place, just behind his Carlin Motorsport teammate Jarvis.

As the cars came through Deer Leap the Safety Car was deployed after Dennis Retera went off on the opening lap at Shell Oils Corner.  Salvador Duran rolled slowly into the pitlane with a broken clutch, ending the Mexican's race before it really began.

The Safety Car came in at the end of lap 3 and once again Senna took the advantage to move ahead at the green flag, but it didn't last long as on the next lap the Safety Car was deployed for the second time after an off for Rodolfo Avila.

On Lap 7 the race got underway again, with Senna once again romping away from the rest of the field, with Jarvis putting second placed Jelley under pressure from the off.  Mike Conway managed to make up a place when he overtook Hitech's James Walker at Island.  Walkers race ended on the next lap when he went off at Old Hall battling for position with Fortec's Yelmer Buurman, which meant the Safety Car was sent out for the third time.

The race restarted on lap 11 with Jarvis and Engel side-by-side into Old Hall battling for third place.  Jarvis hangs on through Cascades and comes through in 3rd place, with his German team mate having to move back as he comes under pressure from 5th placed Mike Conway.  This battling allowed the two Double R Racing Dallaras to move ahead of the rest of the field.  Yelmer Buurman passed Christian Bakkerud for 6th place and then attacked Conway on the start of lap 12, but Conway defended his position.

On lap 13 Senna set the fastest lap of the race and then did it again a lap later.  However he couldn't shake off Stephen Jelley and the Leicester driver set the fastest lap of the race on the last lap with a time of 1m31.093, but he couldn't get on terms with the Brazilian to threaten for the lead.

At the flag it was Senna that punched the air with delight, taking his first win in British F3 and doing something that his uncle, Ayrton Senna, never did, take an F3 win at Oulton Park.  Stephen Jelley was second, 1.5 seconds adrift, with Oliver Jarvis taking 3rd in his first F3 race in his Mugen Honda powered Carlin Motorsport Dallara.

Rodolfo Gonzalez took the National Class win, 11th overall and 4.4 seconds ahead of Cristiano Morgado. Juho Annala was third.
