Watts joins Carrera Cup at Mondello

Danny Watts will join the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for the races at Mondello Park on 22/23 April. Watts will step into the Red Line Racing car driven by Richard Westbrook at Brands, while Westbrook is away racing in the Porsche Supercup race at Imola.Although Watts has yet to race in the Carrera Cup GB, he raced in Carrera Cup Asia last season and tested several cars during the winter. Now, the former F3 race winner has an excellent chance to show his pace in the two Mondello races."I'm very excited about being able to do Mondello," said Watts during a break from testing at Oulton Park. "I'm in arguably the best car with the best team, so I've got to extract the most out of it." It will be his first race outing since contesting the F3 race at Macau last November. The pair of races will be Watts' first race at the Irish track since he raced there in 1999 in Formula Palmer Audi. "I've got to try and get back into the circuit and emulate what Richard did at Brands! It's very different to drive compared to an F3 car, but I'm going all out for Mondello. I want to really make a mark to help secure funding to do some more Carrera Cup races.""I'm really looking forward to getting Danny in the car," says Red Line team boss Simon Leonard. "This is a good opportunity to get him into the Carrera Cup and we're doing a couple of tests before Mondello." Alongside defending champion Damien Faulkner, Watts will be one of five drivers on the Carrera Cup grid with recent single-seater experience."I'm doing Imola," confirmed Westbrook. "I'm sure Danny will do a great job and it's important to have the car out there." Westbrook won both races in the Carrera Cup season opener at Brands, but has confirmed that his Supercup aspirations will take priority next weekend.
