8 finalists for Bridgestone e-reporter

Young European journalists to attend European Grand Prix and report on GP2

Bridgestone, exclusive suppliers to the GP2 series, announce the eight finalists of this year’s e-reporter  competition  –   specifically  designed  to  develop  the  talent  of  young  sports journalists.

In  the  second  phase  of  the  competition,  each  of  the  finalists  will  be  invited  to  attend  a European Grand Prix weekend to soak up the atmosphere in the Formula One paddock and to report on the successful GP2 series. The following eight finalists were chosen by a panel of international media representatives:

San Marino GP: Fabrizio Corgnati Venaria, Italy

Spanish GP: Donna Law London, UK

British GP: Rupert Manwaring Kettering, UK

French GP: Oula Ingerö Antibes, France

German GP: Martin Westerhoff Bonn, Germany

Hungarian GP: Lawrence Barretto Surrey, UK

Italian GP: Barny Whitwham Colchester, UK

Italian GP: Niels Bierman Nieuw Vennep, Netherlands

Applicants were asked to write topical interview questions, along with a 300 word article on a  Formula  One  theme.  Judges  assessed  entrants  on  their  key  writing  skills  and  ability  to conduct appropriate background research on the subject area.

Now in its third successful year, Bridgestone e-reporter offers a phenomenal package for the  overall  winner,  who  will  attend  and  report  on  further  international  events,  also  being awarded a state-of-the-art laptop and invaluable work experience with Motorsport News.

In addition, the winner will feature as presenter of a Bridgestone Journal – a television bulletin covering Bridgestone’s main community programmes including e-reporter, Dreams at Heart and Safety at Heart.

Tony Jardine, Chair of Judges, said: “Firstly a thank you to everyone who took the time to enter. Bridgestone e-reporter is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring young writers to obtain firsthand experience reporting on a European race series. The eight finalists will meet and interview drivers and key personalities within the GP2 and F1 paddocks – getting a true feel for what it takes to be a high-profile motorsports journalist.

“We had an impressive entry list to go through for this judging round, from which we had difficulty narrowing it down to just eight finalists. I look forward to welcoming new talent to the  sport  and  reading  reports  from  our  e-reporters  on  the  Bridgestone  Europe  and  GP2 series websites. Last year the overall winner of Bridgestone e-reporter, Mike Channell from the  UK,  went  on  to  work  for  PC  Format  Magazine,  and  Dorian  Patynowski  is  now  Chief Racing Editor at TopSpeed Magazine in Poland – e-reporter is all about developing careers and I am confident we have a great set of writers for this season. ”
