Round 3 & 4, this weekend
Round 3 and 4 of the 1st J K Tyre Racing Cup 2006 for newcomers will be held this weekend - 29th and 30th April - at the MMST Track at Irrungattukottai near Sriperumbudur. The joint effort undertaken by J K Tyres and Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC) to put this programme together to benefit newcomers and juniors has received tremendous response from the young racing fraternity. Participants have come from Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Indore, Ludhiana and Coimbatore apart from Chennai.
The inaugural races of JK Tyre Racing Cup 2006 – Round 1 & 2 - essentially for beginners and young racing enthusiasts who have not raced or won a race earlier,- were held on 15th and 16th April 2006. The event turned out to be a huge success with more than 28 competitors in the fray for the Formula Maruti and Esteem categories – the latter being run as a support race. All races in the Formula Maruti category have had a full grid – with the number of participants exceeded the number of racing cars.
At the end of the first two rounds Ajay Kini with four successive wins heads the championship table having piled up 43 points followed by Ajith Narasimhan with 22 points and Saran Vikram with 17 points. All the three racers are from Chennai.
The winner of each race will collect Rs.10,000/-, while the runner up and third place will get Rs. 7000/- and Rs.5000/- respectively.
Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motorsports, JK Tyre, said that "this is part of the continuous efforts to promote car racing and to spot and encourage new talent and help provide growth opportunities for deserving young racers."
