Renault Formula JICA karting latest
Jordan Chamberlain (Newport, Gwent) strung together a commanding run of race wins in the Renault Formula JICA kart championship at Shenington on Sunday (30th April).
The 13-year-old won all his qualifying heats and both races counting towards the Renault-backed B4 British Championship.
The dominant display left him leading the series after four races at two venues, with the Oxfordshire circuit suiting him particularly well.
“I was hoping for a win,” said Jordan. “I know the track quite well, the kart handled really well and the engine liked the track.”
The only hiccough came at the start of the second final when his kart had to be restarted on the dummy grid and Chamberlain couldn’t catch up the pack to claim his pole position during the rolling up laps before the start. Fortunately, the pack was red-flagged before the race got under way, giving him a second chance to start in first place.
Oliver Rowland (Penistone, Yorkshire) had a difficult first final, starting in seventh place and loosing two places by the chequered flag. He made up for this in the second final, steadily working his way up through the field to eventually finish in second place.
On the way he got the better of a gripping battle between Jack Harvey (Lincoln), Gary Thompson (Co Dublin) and Tom Grice (Hockley, Essex).
Behind Chamberlain and Rowland, Richard Bradley (Blackheath, London) is third in the Renault Formula ICA Championship. He drove from 11th on the grid in the first final to finish fifth, but dropped a place in the second final, finishing sixth.
