MOHD NAZRI NG WINS RD 1 OF PANGLOBAL KBS A1 DRIVER SEARCHNik Ammar and Abd Razak take remaining podium spotsThe first round of the revamped PanGlobal race driver search programme, now renamed the 2006 PanGlobal KBS A1 Driver Search with Alex Yoong, was run in bright sunshine in the Sepang International Kart circuit last Sunday. Mohd Nazri Ng bin Mohd Noordin Ng, a 28 year old technician from Gombak, Kuala Lumpur snatched victory from third on the grid from Nik Ammar Mohammed and Abd Razak Abd Halim to win the final 8 lap race. A delighted Mohd Nazri said after the race, "I've tried many times to qualify for the Grand Final last year but was unlucky under various circumstances. I am very happy as I had now qualified for the Grand Final in my first attempt with a good kart balloted by me." Six drivers from each round qualify for the Grand Final to be held in August later this year where the champion will be sponsored for a Formula Malaysia/Hayabusa race as well as join the A1 Team Malaysia as a crew member for the A1 GP weekend in Sepang in November 2006. Second placed 30 year old Nik Ammar had a storming race as he had to fight through the field from eighth on the grid. He said, "I had a great start and a good kart. I can't wait for the Grand Final." Abd Razak who finished third is a veteran in terms of seniority as he is the only 50 plus karter of the field. He had been an active participant of the PanGlobal races in the past two years. Abd Razak, the pole sitter, lamented that, "I lost a couple of spots at the start as I got sandwiched in the drive through turn 1 but I'm happy nevertheless for getting third." Another three competitors in the Rd.1 final race also qualified to join the top-three to the Grand Final in August. They are Daniel Lim, Syazril Amri Abd Rahman and Ramsey Rizal Radzmi who finished in fourth to sixth respectively. Alex Yoong who was present in the event was pleased with the quality of racing, "The final race was very exciting and closely fought out. There were little difference in the talent of the final eight competitors and Mohd Nazri did very well to convert a good start to a win."
The PanGlobal KBS A1 Driver Search with Alex Yoong is organised by the Malaysia Motorsport Organisers & Competitors Association (MMOCA) and sponsored and promoted by PanGlobal Insurance Bhd., co-sponsored by The Ministry of Youth & Sports and supported by A1 Team Malaysia, Alex Yoong and the KartQuest Circuit.
