TRACKER traces Mercedes Supercar ..

AND SETS NEW RECORD IN THE PROCESS

Mercedes-Benz’s SLR McLaren may have been showered with automotive accolades, but the car can also now boast of setting another record!

At more than £300,000, Mercedes’ latest supercar now holds the honour of being the single most valuable stolen vehicle ever to be recovered and returned to its rightful owner by TRACKER, the UK’s leading stolen vehicle specialist and the police.

The car was stolen after thieves stole its keys while parked outside an address in South Buckinghamshire. Police traced the car 50 minutes later less than 12 miles away.

The total value of stolen Mercedes recovered during March was £601,000. Again, for the seventh successive month, TRACKER recovered more BMWs than any other marque, totalling £680,000.

March proved to be a month of high-value successful recoveries for TRACKER with two Aston Martins – one formerly owned by the singer Elton John – worth a combined £145,000 as well as a unique Hummer limousine valued at £100,000.

In total, £3.16million worth of vehicles, including cars, motorbikes, caravans, vans and plant were returned to their rightful owners, taking the total sum for the year so far to more than £10million (£10,134,900).

TRACKER’s previous record for a single vehicle recovery was set in December last year when the company traced, and returned, a stolen Rolls Royce worth £270,000 to its owner after it was stolen from outside the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, London.

Parita Patel, Marketing Manager for TRACKER UK, said: “Successfully recovering a vehicle, any vehicle, is extremely pleasing.

“While the Mercedes-Benz’s SLR McLaren is the most valuable stolen vehicle we’ve ever tracked, its worth would not set it aside, in terms of receiving preferential treatment, from any of the 750,000+ vehicles equipped with a TRACKER unit here in the UK.”

·       TRACKER’s SVR system is activated and alerts TRACKER HQ of any unauthorised movement of the vehicle. The owner is contacted and asked to confirm the theft and if validated, TRACKER activates the unit. The system transmits a VHF radio signal, which is picked up by both TRACKER HQ, and patrolling police vehicles fitted with a receiving device. TRACKER’s technology pinpoints the position of the vehicle to within a couple of feet.

·       TRACKER’s recovery statistics speak for themselves. During 2005, the company teamed up with the police to trace and return more than £36 million worth of stolen vehicles to their rightful owners. To date the company has recovered more than 14,000 vehicles - worth a staggering £310 million - since 1993.

·       TRACKER Network UK is a company of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, one of the world's leading financial services groups.
