Westbrook takes second Supercup win

Richard Westbrook made it two wins in a row with a mighty performance in round three of the Porsche Michelin Supercup at the Grand Prix of Europe at the Nurburgring yesterday (Sunday 7 May).Westbrook started from pole position and went on to dominate the race, finishing three seconds clear of Austrian Richard Lietz. The victory gives Westbrook a 12-point lead in the Supercup over David Saelens. The British ace took just three laps of qualifying to put his Racing Team Morellato car onto pole position. "It couldn't have gone better today," he said after qualifying. "My car ran beautifully and this enabled me to turn a perfect lap. I also have a totally fresh set of tyres for tomorrow's race. I'm delighted with my second pole position. I hope for a good start tomorrow and to do the best job possible."Initially, Lietz beat Westbrook to the first corner after the start of the race on Sunday, but Westbrook moved ahead on the second lap to take a lead he held to the chequered flag. "After the qualifying session, I had the advantage of having a fresh set of tyres to use during the race – which was of course also quite risky," explained Westbrook. "But it all worked out well. At the moment things are running really well and I’m feeling very optimistic. The Barcelona round will be a big test for us."The teams and drivers have less than a week to prepare for the next race, as round four of the Porsche Michelin Supercup takes place at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona on Sunday 14 May. 'Eurosport' will broadcast the race live from 11.45am.
