Silverstone Supercar Showdown

SAME TIME, SAME PLACE,   SEE YOU NEXT YEAR - 4/5/6 MAY 2007*  

SILVERSTONE, SRO & THE ROYAL AUTOMOBILE CLUB ANNOUNCE 2007 EVENT DATES

 Silverstone  Circuit  Ltd  (SCL),  Stephane  Ratel  Organisation  (SRO)  and  The  Royal Automobile   Club,   the   joint   event   promoters   of   the   all-new   Silverstone   Supercar Showdown, are pleased to announce that the 2007 event will take place on the weekend of 4/5/6 May*.

Despite  the  patchy  weather,  the  promoters  have  been  extremely  pleased  with  the interest  and  support  this  year’s  inaugural  event  has  generated.  “We  have  witnessed great interest from supercar fans from all over the UK and from Europe this weekend and  are  happy  to  announce  a  weekend  crowd  of  15,000”  said  Richard  Phillips, Managing  Director  of  Silverstone  Circuit.   He  continued,  “we  now  look  forward  to developing this new and exciting event in future years”.

Stephane Ratel, Chairman of SRO said “The race grids this weekend have been even greater than imagined, the paddocks are full of some of the world’s most exotic racing supercars,  and  the  teams  and  manufacturers  have  been  extremely  supportive  of  our goals. We are extremely pleased with this first FIA GT event of the season, and the first Silverstone Supercar Showdown, and now look forward to starting the 2007 season here at Silverstone.”     

For the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy, Stephen Hammerton, Chairman of the Club’s Motoring Committee, added, “The FIA GT Championship continues to build and continues to thrill the spectators with wonderful high-performance motorsport. The Club looks   forward   to   working   with   Silverstone   and   SRO   in   developing   the   Supercar Showdown further, and establishing it as a premier motorsport event.”     

This   year’s   opening   ceremony   included   the   staging   of  the  inaugural  London   to Silverstone  Supercar  Tour,  which  was  also  a  great  success.  Thirty  21st  Century Supercars drove out of Pall Mall, London, on Friday under Police Escort for the start of their  80  mile  non-motorway  tour  to  Silverstone,  concluding  with  two  fast  laps  of  the famous Grand Prix circuit.  

The 2007 Tour is planned for Friday 4 May.

Supercar club displays, manufacturer displays, air displays, family entertainment and all the fun of the festival weekend will continue for 2007 with further enhancements to be announced.    Further    event    details    will    soon    be    posted    on    the    websites    of silverstone.co.uk and www.fiagt.com
