Priaulx puts Britain ahead of Germany and Brazil in World Cup on aggregateWorld Cup fever may be building in Britain but the action has already started in the World Touring Car Championship with Brit Andy Priaulx taking two wins from the first four races. Germany has scored one goal with Dirk Müller behind the wheel of a BMW while Brazil’s shot in the net came from Augusto Farfus Jr in an Alfa Romeo.
The weekend kicks off on Friday with a test session before the full event begins on Saturday with qualifying at 15.40. The main races take place back-to-back on Sunday. The first 50 km (31 mile) starts at 14.15. The drivers then have just ten minutes for the drivers to eat their half-time oranges before they’re back on the grid for the second 50km (31 mile) 12-lap leg.
As well as Andy Priaulx (BMW), the British squad includes James Thompson (SEAT), Rob Huff (Chevrolet) and Ryan Sharp (Honda). They face a tough challenge from the Germans with Dirk Müller and Jörg Müller both fielding BMWs and perhaps the German ‘Theo Walcott’ is Peter Terting, the 22 year old with a SEAT works drive. Italy’s Paulo Rossi of the WTCC world could well be Nicola Larini, Gabriele Tarquini or the national hero Alessandro Zanardi? And for France Yvan Muller must surely be the Thierry Henri of the track, while the aspiring Pelé is Brazil’s Augusto Farfus Jr.
Race day is Sunday May 21st and the track action will be supported by a fun fair and family entertainment. Brands Hatch is located in Kent, just 20 miles from central London, off the A20.
