Is The World Enough?

The World Series by Renault is one of the key feeder series to the ultimate goal of any single seat racer, Formula One. In fact, it’s seen as so important that it forms one of the F1 support races, when it hits the streets of Monte Carlo for the most glamorous Grand Prix of them all, Monaco. Eric Salignon proved to be the cream of the Renault crop at the opening round at Zolder, winning both races in his Interwetten-run Formula Renault 3.5. He’ll be looking to repeat that feat and get himself noticed by the Formula One fraternity as they prepare for their race on the streets of the Mediterranean principality.

Long and Winding Road

The latest edition in the Road To Le Mans series takes a look back at the 2005 24 Hour race, where local heroes Pescarolo looked like having their best chance of victory in recent years, with a strong driver line-up, including reigning World Rally Champion, Frenchman Sebastien Loeb. They were taking on the might of Le Mans veterans Audi, with an equally strong line-up, including Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen in the proven R8 prototype. As it transpired, Pescarolo was close but it was Kristensen who was the hero of the hour, taking his record-equalling seventh career win at the la Sarthe circuit. A                                                  classic year, running under burning sunshine in the French countryside.

On Your Bike…

The World SuperBike Championship is hotting up, as the action moves into the summer months and the fifth round takes the competitors to Silverstone, the home of British motorsport, for the first of two visits to UK soil. Troy Bayliss dominated the fourth round at Monza in Italy, winning both races and securing a new lap record in the process. Fellow Aussie Troy Corser and Noriyuki Haga gave him occasional pressure but not enough to worry the championship leader. He heads for Silverstone with a 36-point margin over Corser, with Brit James Toseland in third. Motors TV will be showing the Superbike and Supersport race highlights.

The Czechs In The Post

The 2006 FIA GT Championship kicked off in style in May, with the opening round at Silverstone. First blood went to the Vitaphone Maserati MC12 of Bertolini and Bartels, closely followed by the Zakspeed Saleen S7 and the Aston Martin Racing DB9R. The racing was so close that after three hours, there were five cars on the lead lap as they crossed the finish line. The second round of the championship visits the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic. The 5.4Km track is a favourite for the GTs and Motors TV will show highlights of the action from the second round.

For Fun, Dial 911

The latest edition of GT Spirit looks at perhaps one of the most famous and iconic GT brands, the ubiquitous Porsche 911 family. Launched at the 1963 Frankfurt Motorshow, the new car was supposed to be called the 901 but Peugeot already had the rights to use ‘x0x’, so its name was changed to 911. The name has invoked the spirit of sports and GT cars ever since and this programme charts the development of the range, from the early models right up to the latest Carrera S.
