First Class result for Rees

A last minute deal to contest the Pro-Art Signs Red Dragon Rally provided West Wales rally man Grant Rees with one of his best results of his short rallying career, dominating his rally class in the rallyschool.co.uk MG ZR.Rees was quick out of the starting blocks on the British Trials & Rally Drivers Association (BTRDA) Championship qualifying event in South Wales setting a time over the opening Argoed test, 12 seconds quicker than his nearest class rival. Despite a spin on the next special timed stage in Margam, the Llanybydder driver and his Aberystwyth co-driver, Wyn Davies extended their class lead to 24 seconds and setting another fastest time in the process. The pace continued over the next two stages, Crynant and Walters Arena, before arriving at the service halt with a comfortable class lead. Two stages remained, both in Margam and the young Welshman took a steady run through the first of these, only setting second fastest time in the class. The final stage of the day climaxed with the Welsh pairing take another stage win, the class win and more importantly their first finish of the year in the series. "It has been a very good day for us. I am over the moon with the result. We have had no hiccups apart from a minor spin this morning." Rees was also full of praise for the rallyschool.co.uk MG."The car has worked perfect all day. It is a very good car and handles extremely well, I have really enjoyed driving it today. I am very grateful to the Rallyschool for allowing me the chance to drive their car. "Grant will miss the next round of the championship, opting for the short journey to Llandovery to contest the Quinton Stages Rally on Saturday 8th July. He will be re-united with his Volkswagon Polo, which he campaigned in his first season of rallying last year. The Quinton will be the Polo's first appearance on the stages this year.
