CLASSIC ACTION AT BANGER’S PRE-1970 WORLD FINAL
Spedeworth South turns the clock back in time when the Pre-1970 National Bangers World Final takes place at Wimbledon Stadium on Sunday May 28th at 5pm.
The clapped-out classics that have reached the end of the road (and are even beyond the point that the most ardent restorer can save them) will have one last chance for glory on the night as the drivers push their old machines to total destruction in pursuit of the title.
Classic British iron will be very much in attendance, as drivers coax the last remaining Austin Cambridges, Morris Oxfords, Humber Hawks and Mk II Jaguars to take to the track and do battle with other cars that were around when petrol cost shillings a gallon and in car entertainment meant a valve radio that took the best part of the journey to warm up before mum mad dad could enjoy the dulcet tones of the crooners of the day or those nice clean cut boys the Beatles, before being shocked by the frightfully long haired Kinks or Rolling Stones.Awards will be presented to the Oldest, Rarest and Best Prepared cars, which has led to some very interesting classics appearing at Plough Lane.
The classics will compete in several races over the night before being sent to the scrap yard in the sky in a last car moving demolition derby.
Rounding off the night’s action the non-contact Rookie Rods will be competing in Round 5 of the Ace Race Engine Challenge Series. These budget priced racing machines are very evenly matched and as such always deliver extremely close racing at Plough Lane.
With a field of classics from the glory days of motoring, and the Rookie Rod’s London Championship Spedeworth will deliver another night’s great racing at Wimbledon Stadium, Britain’s finest stock car racing circuit.
