Dodd aims for Severn-th Heaven

Poole driver Marcus Dodd heads to familiar territory next weekend as the multiple National Rally Champion goes for glory on the gravel roads of Mid Wales.  Dodd will contest the Severn Valley National Rally, a round of the MSA National Gravel Rally Championship, and an event that the HPM Motorsport ace won in 2005.One year later and the Flitewise.com backed driver lies second in the championship after a solid start to the season in his Hyundai Accent WRC.  With Hove's Andrew Bargery alongside, Marcus knows that the mid point of the season is a vital time to score plenty of points, and the Sunseeker Powerboats and Pirelli backed crew will be going all out for victory on the Builth Wells based rally. The rally route takes in some of the classic Mid to South Wales forestry stages, including the Brechfa Forest, normally seen on Wales Rally GB, the Welsh round of the FIA World Rally Championship.  World class stages feature strongly on the event itinerary, as Dodd and Bargery will also complete on the famous Halfway and Crychan roads during the day.5th place on the recent RBS International Manx Rally has promoted Dodd to 2nd overall in the MSA National Gravel Championship points, and the HPM Motorsport team are keen to push themselves to the top of the championship ladder with another strong performance in Mid Wales.  The event can switch from dusty and dry to soaking wet at the drop of a hat, and Marcus is relishing the prospect of returning to Welsh soil on June 3rd:'The championship couldn't be much closer at this stage of the season, so we really need to make this event count' said Dodd.  'The Manx result was good for us as tarmac isn't my preferred surface of choice.  Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the rally and I was very pleased with the car.  Gravel is by far and away my most natural surface, and having won the event last year, I think we stand a very solid chance of winning again.  Of course, it does not pay to be complacent in this game, so we'll need to have a good clean run in order for that to happen.  The Hyundai is a very different animal to the car that won the event last year.  As such, it all helps to give me even greater confidence going into the rally.  I think it will be a close one, but hopefully we will come out on top.  Running first on the road might be a disadvantage on some of the stages if there is loose gravel on the top of the road.  With the recent wet weather, it hopefully won't be too much of a problem'.HPM Motorsport will be one of the busiest teams on the event.  Aside from looking after Marcus, the sister Hyundai Accent WRC of Harry Dodd and Roy Campbell will also be contesting the event.  The Flitewise.com backed crew are also looking forward to a return to the gravel stages, where they will be joined by yet another of the ex-factory Hyundai's.  Peter Egerton makes a welcome return to the team and the MSA National Gravel Championship with Simon Staddon alongside after a short break.  Finally, the fourth members of the team will once again be the Dorset Police Rally Team and their Subaru Impreza Group N car.  Shaun Cronin will pilot the Road Angel and Petards supported car which also returned unscathed after Shaun's first ever trip to the Isle of Man.
