Initially it looked as if  Michael had won pole position for tomorrow's Monaco Grand Prix - but following a stewards meeting he was demoted to the back of the grid. Near the end of the session Michael "crashed" into the wall at Rascasse - blocking other drivers on their hot laps in the dying minutes of qualifying. Subsequent review of the accident showed Michael did little to prevent the incident - and then his car mysteriously stalled - preventing him from reversing and getting out of the way....

Ferrari predictably released PR from Jean Todt to refute the allegations that the incident was a deliberate ploy..

The decision was made by the stewards 8 hours later after studying the incident to send Schumi to the back of the grid. Fisichella was also demoted 5 further places down the grid to ninth - after having been judged to have blocked Coulthard on a hot lap.

Note the brilliant effort from Webber in 2nd - who always goes well here.

Massa did not record a time after binning his car on an out lap in the first session - meaning both Ferraris will start from the back of the grid - ouch!
